As the sun rises over Te Tai Tokerau on April 1st, Te Taumata Hauora o Te Kahu o Taonui will mark a new chapter in its journey, a transition from planning to action in its mission to transform Māori health outcomes.
While the organisation has been operating for some time now, this period has been spent laying solid foundations. This has meant work understanding the scope of work, establishing key relationships, and ensuring the right leadership is in place. With Boyd Broughton at the helm as CEO, Te Taumata Hauora is now moving forward with the implementation of its strategic plan, ensuring that whānau priorities drive change in the health system.
Why this moment matters
This dawn ceremony is not just an event, it is a commitment to action. Te Taumata Hauora is focused on four key areas that matter most to whānau:
Access to quality health services – ensuring services are available, timely, and reflect Māori needs.
Warm, dry, secure, and affordable housing – because good health starts in the home.
Māmā and pēpi – supporting the best start in life for our tamariki and their whānau.
Living mentally well and free from addictions – advocating for better support and access to kaupapa Māori solutions.
What comes next?
Following this launch, Te Taumata Hauora will be actively engaging with whānau, iwi, and the health system to ensure these priorities are embedded in decision-making, investment, and service delivery. This is the start of a new phase, where Māori leadership is driving the change that whānau deserve.
