Nei Te Taumata Hauora o Te Kahu o Taonui e mihi ake ki a koutou e te whānau o Te Aka Whai Ora, tahi anō koutou ka kuhu ki raro i te maru o Te Whatu Ora.

Te Taumata Hauora o Te Kahu o Taonui, the Iwi-Māori Partnership Board for the Northern Region, extends heartfelt acknowledgments to our esteemed colleagues who once courageously led the aspirational journey of Te Aka Whai Ora, the Māori Health Authority.

In a time marked by uncertainty and political intricacies, our whanaunga made the bold decision to embrace the challenges inherent in spearheading Te Aka Whai Ora. Their unwavering commitment stemmed from a deep-seated desire to amplify Māori voices and wield greater influence over health services and hauora outcomes for whānau, hapū, iwi, and communities across Aotearoa.

Te Aka Whai Ora emerged from the collective aspirations of countless voices, including many who have since passed on, all united in their resolve to rectify the entrenched inequities experienced by Māori from birth. This initiative sought to dismantle the systemic, procedural, and interpersonal barriers hindering Māori agency in determining their hauora.

"We extend our utmost respect and gratitude to the pioneering leaders of Te Aka Whai Ora," said Boyd Broughton, Chief Executive of Te Taumata Hauora o Te Kahu o Taonui. "Their courageous endeavours have laid the foundation for transformative change in Māori health and wellness. We honour their legacy and remain steadfast in our commitment to advancing the aspirations they so energetically championed."

As we reflect on their legacy, we also recognise the ongoing journey toward achieving equitable health outcomes for all Māori. Te Taumata Hauora o Te Kahu o Taonui reaffirms its dedication to partnering with communities and stakeholders to realise the vision of “Toitū te mana o ngā whānau o Te Tai Tokerau, kia toa, kia mārō, kia puāwai”.

Nō reira ki a koutou katoa, koutou e aroha nui ana ki te iwi Māori, kia kaha, kia māia, kia manawa kuaka. Ko ngā tamariki, ko ngā mokopuna, ā, ko te āpōpōtanga te take.
